Part 1 - Australia and the long cruise home
On Sunday Feb 14th we leave the cold Canadian winter en route to Sydney, Australia. This will be our second visit to this great land in less than a year. During late March of 2009 we stopped in Sydney for 2 days while cruising from Auckland, New Zealand to Hong Kong. Sydney was followed by visits to Hamilton Island in the Whitsunday Islands, Cairns, and Darwin.
This year we plan to spend about 3 weeks in the southeast corner of Australia driving first from Sydney to Melbourne followed by a short flight to Hobart, Tasmania where we will tour with friends for a week before returning to Canberra. We will then visit the area around Sydney including the Blue Mountains and perhaps a few wineries before our departure on March 8th.
On that day we will board the Queen Mary 2 in Sydney for a 38 day voyage ending, for us, in New York City on April 15th. The Queen is actually on a round-the-world voyage, which will end in Southampton so we, like many others, will be participating in just a segment of this. We will travel along the south coast of Australia stopping at Adelaide and Perth before crossing the Indian Ocean to Mauritius. From there we will stop in Durban and Cape Town and then cross the South Atlantic to the island of St. Helena and finally Rio de Janeiro. From there we will head north with stops in Barbados and Ft. Lauderdale before reaching our destination of New York. We then have a very short flight back to Toronto where we anticipate (hope) spring will be underway.
We hope that you can return to this page as our adventure unfolds - Stay tuned!
Best regards,
David & Barbra
